Middle School pupils have the opportunity to undertake individual instrumental tuition and also have the opportunity to participate in a choice of clubs which varies slightly year on year. Recently, middle school pupils have been able to participate in a middle school choir, a keyboard club and a boys only Barbershop group.
Harmonizing Growth
Along with drama, music provides an opportunity for artistic expression throughout the whole of the school. Such opportunities require a great deal of commitment and team work outside the usual curriculum and in this way, pupils develop increasing self-discipline and confidence, as well as the satisfaction and pleasure gained from participating in such performing arts.
Year 6 pupils enjoy one hour of music per week whilst pupils in Year 7 and 8 pupils enjoy one and a half hours of music lessons per week. The Curriculum for middle school is very broad and includes many different areas and styles of music. We also attempt to include many areas that are part of the music GCSE syllabus in readiness for pupils to start their options in Year 9.
Musical Workshops
This year we have organized several workshops for middle school pupils. These have included a trip to the Barbican to listen to the London Symphony Orchestra playing film music, a song writing workshop, Irish dancing and also a visit from a ‘Stomp’ group.
